How does the water influence the whisky's flavour profile?

The water we use is one of the softest waters used in the production of Scotch Malt Whisky.  We have an exclusive water source, a network of springs which run under the grounds of our Estate, which is only available to us.

The geological make-up of the rocks through which this spring water is filtered creates an extremely soft water, in other words, removing minerals.  This low mineral content means the water needs no human intervention before it is used and it reacts differently through the mashing and fermentation processes.

Our water delivers a clean, light mouth feel which is the foundation of the elegant character of our spirit.

What is the impact of using sherry seasoned casks on the whisky’s character?

We commission our casks to be made and seasoned with sherry for us, which allows us to control the quality.  Our sherry-seasoning leaves the casks very active, meaning they layer rich flavours onto the elegant character of The Glenrothes spirit.

As the whisky gets older, the “ageing” of the spirit itself starts to become more prominent and The Glenrothes develops into very fragrant and aromatic territories, providing a delicate counterbalance to the stronger wood-derived flavours.

What whiskies make up The Glenrothes 'core collection'?

The 15, The 18 and The 25 are our 'core' whiskies. Currently in our collection, we also have the private client exclusive, The 32 and the limited editions, The 42 and The 51.

Where is The Glenrothes distillery?
